Dr. Thomas Kaus

Dr. med. dent. (Germany), Dip Imp Dent (RCS Eng)

Dr. Kaus is a graduate of the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, Germany and became a dentist in 1990. He wrote his doctoral thesis (Dr.med.dent.) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Willi Schulte, who developed the Tübingen implant system for immediate replacement of teeth in the 70ies. Prof. W. Schulte later became an Honorary Fellow of the Academy of Osseointegration in recognition of his outstanding contributions to implant dentistry.

Dr. Kaus later joined the Department of Prosthodontics and Implantology at the University of Tübingen. Dr. Kaus worked closely with Prof. Dr. Heiner Weber as “Oberarzt” (senior dentist) and headed the undergraduate programme at the University of Tübingen. At the Department of Prosthodontics and Implantology he treated patients, carrying out the surgical and restorative aspects of implant dentistry. He also was responsible for research and teaching.

He later worked in a private practice setting, at a highly regarded continuous education dental training and treatment-centre in Stuttgart (ZFZ – Zahnmedizinisches FortbildungsZentrum) providing the surgical and restorative aspects of implant related treatment. He organised and implemented the postgraduate certification courses for Implantology on behalf of the provincial regulatory body in Stuttgart, Germany. He is author and co-author of numerous publications and is the co-author, with Ashok Sethi, of a fundamental textbook “Practical Implant Dentistry” published by Quintessence International, which has been translated into 10 languages (now available in its 2nd edition). Together with a team of implantologists he implemented a Diploma Programme in Implant Dentistry (Dip Imp Dent) at the Royal College of Surgeons in London, England and is a past Deputy Programme Director.

In 2004 he joined the University of Toronto and was a part time Assistant Professor at the Department of Prosthodontics.

In 2006 he took over an established practice in Kitchener, which he relocated to Uptown Waterloo in 2016. 

Not only does he enjoy his work he also enjoys skiing, playing the piano and organ as well as spending time with his family.
